Curriculum Development

Visiting Professor of Humanities, Bard Early College of New Orleans at Tulane University’s Cowen Institute

back to school

As a writing instructor, I am committed to prioritizing students’ prior knowledge and talents, and I am especially interested in using these skills in service of Opportunity Youth. In the spring of 2016, I taught a Writing and Inquiry course for apprentices at Tulane’s
Earn and Learn Program at Cowen Institute using Bard College’s Institute on Writing and Thinking approach to writing and critical thinking. The Earn and Learn program introduces young New Orleanians aged 16-24 to career pathways in high-growth industries.

For this pilot collaboration, I helped develop curriculum for scaffolding reading comprehension, active reading activities and accountable talk using Bard College texts and developmental writing activities.
