HNOC pilot program

Working with Education Coordinator at the Historic New Orleans Collection, we transcribed first person letters and other primary sources to enrich Civil War era literature course at Delgado Community College.

YEP Digital Storytelling Class

Working with Bard Early College New Orleans (BECNO) director Dr. Jessie Morgan-Owensand New Orleans’ Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) Postsecondary Transition Coordinator we succeeded in offering two courses to high opportunity youth, and recruited students whose interests and needs fit our services. The digital literacy class I co-designed with a fellow BECNO professor introduced personal narrative and iPhone video to equip students to write, shoot and edit their own personal stories.

The HiSET preparation class I designed and taught used discussion, multimedia presentation and Lucy Calkins’ mini-lessons to engage students in the relationship between structure and content in writing. The class prepared students to take the writing test section of the GED, or HiSET, exam. Since this pilot, and our subsequent outcomes meeting, YEP has requested to replicate the program.
